Storyline

Middlemarch is a first class piece of British drama which set an extremely high standard of writing, acting and directing for any series to follow. It tells the tale of a young, idealistic doctor Tertius Lydgate who moves to Middlemarch in England in the 1800's intent on 'doing good work' for both the town itself and the wider world in general. Dorothea Brooke, a local well-to-do woman, also has great dreams of reforming the quality of life of the poor and their paths - although separate and twisted - are parallel inasmuch as the choices they make in their personal relationships severely limit their ability to carry out their great visions. A superbly crafted six part series made in 1994
